The daily five minutes

Before opening: power on everything, glance every monitor, wiggle every mouse. A checklist on a clipboard (or a shared note) beats memory. Catching a dead headset at 10 AM costs you nothing; discovering it during a full house costs you a customer's whole evening.

The weekly hour

  • Update game launchers and clients on a rotation — a third of machines each week — so no single morning becomes update purgatory.
  • Compressed-air pass on intake vents in dusty seats and clean mouse sensors plus keyboard wipe-downs. Hygiene is retention; sticky keys are reviews.

The monthly deep pass

Pick the four oldest machines: open the case, dust filters and heatsinks, check fan bearings, review temps under load. Heat is the silent killer of GPUs — a center machine runs more hours in a month than a home PC does in a season.

Spares are uptime insurance

Stock cheap, frequent failures: two mice, two headsets, one keyboard, spare DP/HDMI cables, one PSU. A dead mouse should be a 90-second swap, not a dead seat all weekend. Log every failure in a simple sheet — patterns (the same seat eating headsets, one brand failing early) tell you what to change.

Standardize images, save weekends

Keep one golden Windows image with all games, drivers, and your management software. A machine acting weird gets re-imaged in under an hour instead of debugged for a day. Boring, standardized, identical machines are the backbone of a center that just works.
